Each person killed has an individual story. But there are also groups of victims that have a specific story that belongs to the group. We are currently working on three groups:

  • Media workers (journalists, photographers, bloggers)
  • Healtcare workers(doctors, nurses, psychological councelling)
  • Children
  • Academics (professors, academic researchers)

Media workers

By December 1, 2023 Israel killed 71 journalists.

There are specific provisions in international law to protect humanitarian workers and journalists during armed conflict. For more information see this article from Reporters without borders.

Israel is clearly violating these laws by targeted killings and mass bombings.

By killing people that report the real story on what is happening on the ground, the oppressing power is influencing the media and the public knowlegde about the genocide and apartheid regime.

Journalist Ahmed Fatima worked as a correspondent for the Cairo News Channel. He used to embrace children at Al-Shifa Hospital to reassure them and try to ease their fear due to the Israeli bombardment. He was kind-hearted and gentle, loved by all his colleagues. In every gathering of friends, he was present, and when absent, everyone asked about him. Ahmed was martyred in an Israeli bombardment while covering the news at the entrance of Al-Shifa Hospital on 14/11/2023.

Children

After 3 months of bombing Save the Children reported that more than 10.000 children have been killed by Israel.

After 5 months the United Nations reported that more children have been killed in Gaza than in four years of conflict worldwide.

The numbers only increased. And are even underestimates. Many children are expected to be still burried under the rubble.

In addition Israel is using the denial of basic items as a weapon. Due to lack of petrol and medicins, children that could normally be treated die in hospitals. Lack of clean water lead to contageous diseases. Lack of food leads to famine. Listen to a podcast of De Correspondent (Dutch) about the disaster of famine that already took place and will take thousands of lives in the months coming.

Not to mention the number of children that have lost a limb (sometimes amputated without anestesia, in one of the few remaining healthcare facilities where doctors work with torches), became orphans, lost their homes, became displaced and traumatised.

Listen here to how children will feel this consequences of this was for the coming years by stress & polution during pregnancy and pollution in their early ages.

Finally there are also children kidnapped by IDF soldiers, for example 8 year old Duha.

Ali Nasr (2) adored spending time on the beach. Gaza is situated by the sea. For many Gazans it is the only place where they can relax, enjoy the water, the sun, the view, and fresh air. Ali brought his white teddy bear to join him. He looks up smiling, showing his first teeth. He will never use them. The Israeli government ended his life and that of his mother and grandparents.

Here is the They Have Names memorial gallery with the pictures and strories of killed children. Note these are only a few of the many thousants.

Well known people are speaking out about the slaugher of children but the people in power are not acting.

Children should never be a target in a conflict. In Gaza, where 43% of the population is child and where they are targeted rudelessly, children become the main victim.

Too many stories to tell. Here a few of those murdered or still alive…

  • Hind became an example of the horrors the children in Gaza have to endure. Waiting for hours in a taxi between her killed family members until she died herself. Read more about it with The Rights Forum (Dutch)
  • Meet Haytham who tell’s with a big smile how he lost his hand and his friends while playing football and what his dreams are.
  • Abdullah asks us to pass his message. His message is there is no more message left.
  • 8 year old Zein tells us about starvation and how he is planing potatoes.

RIP Rahaf Abu Sweireh

Academics

Targeting the academic world is another way to destroy Gaza’s society. Not only academics and staff and students but also univerity buildings and all the infratructure required for higher education. This is refered to as scholasticide. Read here more about Israels deliberate and systematic destruction of the Palestinian education system Gaza.

From the website of London based King’s College: ‘Dr Al Rayes joined King’s in 2019 when he was awarded a highly prestigious Chevening Scholarship, and undertook an MSc in Women and Children’s Health. His work was published in a number of high-profile journals and he was well respected and known among his colleagues for his dedication to improving healthcare for women and children in low-income and war-affected regions.’
After graduating he decided to return to Gaza. He was said to be a brilliant academic that was always smiling. Until he died after 48 hours under the rubble

Healthcare workers

Quote from Geneva Convention: ‘Civilian hospitals organized to give care to the wounded and sick, the infirm and maternity cases, may in no circumstances be the object of attack, but shall at all times be respected and protected by the Parties to the conflict.’

Israel is:

  • Bombing hospitals

  • Targeting healthcare workers (killing or abducting & torturing them)
  • Denying hospitals resources to threat patients
